Sen. Bradley Applauds Vote Advancing I-94 Westbound Expansion Study
Major Step Toward Improving One of Wisconsin’s Most Dangerous Highways
(Madison) Senator Julian Bradley (R–New Berlin) today celebrated the Transportation Projects Commission’s approval of funding to study the expansion of westbound I-94 in Waukesha County, a critical step forward for a long-needed safety and modernization project.
Heavy traffic, an outdated design, and frequent crashes have made the westbound stretch of I-94 between Highway SS and the Jefferson County line one of Wisconsin’s most dangerous and congested corridors. Community leaders, local officials, and transportation experts have long called for action, but progress stalled when Governor Evers vetoed funding for the study this summer. Still, Senator Bradley and Waukesha County leaders kept pushing to keep the project a priority.
“Today’s vote is a major win for the people of Waukesha County,” said Bradley. “Despite the Governor’s veto, we never stopped fighting for safer roads and common-sense infrastructure improvements. Anyone who drives this corridor knows how urgently upgrades are needed, and this decision puts us one step closer to delivering them.”
The TPC’s approval allows the project to move into its next phase, authorizing an environmental and design study necessary before construction can be considered. This study will evaluate options to reduce congestion, improve traffic flow, and enhance safety along a corridor essential to regional mobility and economic activity.
“As our communities grow, our infrastructure has to grow with them,” Bradley continued. “This project is about protecting families, supporting our local economy, and making sure one of Wisconsin’s key transportation routes is built for the future.”
Senator Bradley emphasized that he will continue working with Waukesha County leaders and local stakeholders to ensure the project maintains momentum.
