Senate Bradley Resolution to Keep 9 Supreme Court Justices Passes Senate
January 25, 2022
MADISON, Wis. — A resolution authored by Senator Julian Bradley, R–Franklin, and Representative Tony Kurtz, R–Wonewoc, to call for a constitutional convention to set the number of U.S. Supreme Court justices to only nine passed the Wisconsin State Senate on Tuesday.
"As activist liberals in Congress debate packing the court, we must take action to protect the Supreme Court from radical activism," Senator Bradley said. "Amending the U.S. Constitution to keep the number of Supreme Court justices at nine will protect the court against politically motivated attempts to reshape it. The Supreme Court deals with the most foundational and controversial issues our nation faces — such as life, free speech, and the freedom of religion — and it shouldn't be able to be transformed at the whim of D.C. politicians."
Senate Joint Resolution 58 now heads to the Assembly. It does not need approval from Governor Evers to register Wisconsin's support for a constitutional convention to set the number of Supreme Court justices to nine.
