Wirch Named 2019-2020 “Friend of Public Health”

Madison- Senator Bob Wirch (D-Somers) has been named a “Friend of Public Health” by the Wisconsin Association of Local Health Departments and Boards (WALHDAB) and Wisconsin Public Health Association (WPHA) for his work to support public health priorities during the 2019-2020 legislative session.

“I’m honored to be called a ‘Friend of Public Health’. These last few months have shown us the importance of public health associations and local health departments, and to be recognized for supporting their work is very gratifying,” said Wirch.

Together, the WALHDAB and WPHA represent more than 1,200 public health professionals all across the state. In a statement announcing the 2019-2020 “Friends of Public Health”, WPHA Co-Chair Maureen Busalacchi said, “WPHA and WALHDAB are committed to advocating for policies that positively impact the social determinants of health, which include issues related to housing, education, criminal justice reform, and income stability and employment.  These legislators demonstrated their dedication to advancing equity in these areas.”  WALHDAB Co-Chair Linda Conlon added, “This session’s ‘Friends of Public Health’ were allies in supporting our priorities.  As we navigate the current public health emergency, we will continue to look for partnerships and support from state leaders.”
