Wirch Statement on Supreme Court Affirmation of LGBTQ Workplace Protections

Kenosha – State Senator Bob Wirch (D-Somers) issued the following statement following the U.S. Supreme Court's decision on workplace protections for LGBTQ Americans:

"For so long now, many of us have known that discriminating against a person based on who they love, particularly in the workplace, was morally wrong.  Now, during Pride Month, the U.S. Supreme Court has made clear that it is also legally wrong.

While the LGBTQ community has made tremendous strides, it is shocking that, until today, in many places a gay, lesbian or trans person could get married on Sunday and fired on Monday. The Court's 6-3 ruling, with conservatives Roberts and Gorsuch siding with the majority, shows the progress being made in changing hearts and minds.  There is still much work to be done, but today, we should celebrate this victory for fairness and equality."
