Senator Wirch Urges Public to Sign Petition for Veterans

Madison, WI - Senator Bob Wirch (D-Somers) is urging the public to stand with our veterans and sign onto a petition to tell Governor Walker to veto a bill that will hurt many veterans suffering from toxic exposure to asbestos. Assembly Bill 19 (AB 19) protects the pocketbooks of big corporations that exposed workers to hazardous levels of asbestos and have caused lung cancer and mesothelioma.

“We need to send a message to Governor Walker that our veterans come before irresponsible corporations,” Wirch said. “There are veterans suffering from cancer that was caused by exposure to asbestos during their military service. Please go to www.VetoForVeterans.com and tell Governor Walker to reject this shameful legislation.”

AB 19 would limit the ability of all victims of asbestos exposure to receive justice from the money-hungry corporations that subjected them to the cancer causing mineral. While this bill affects all individuals who contracted illnesses as a result of asbestos exposure, studies have revealed that 30% of all mesothelioma deaths were veterans who were exposed during their service in the military.
