100 New Jobs Coming to Kenosha

More positive economic news for the 21st Senate District! Colbert Packaging Corp., an Illinois printing and packaging company, announced on Tuesday that it has selected Kenosha for its newest facility and the base of its future growth. This is great news, and the announcement means 100 new jobs coming to the area plus economic growth for Kenosha and southeastern Wisconsin for years to come.

The President of Colbert noted that the company chose Wisconsin for its growing division because of our "inviting business climate." It is wonderful to see businesses growing in our area, and I am glad the Kenosha City Council and the Wisconsin Economic Development Corp. were able to work together to bring this great company to our community. Welcome Colbert!

Drug Take Back Day October 22

It is a terrible reality that Wisconsin is facing an escalating opioid epidemic. In 2011, the CDC reported overdose deaths involving opioid painkillers exceeded deaths involving heroin and cocaine combined.

With the large quantity of opioids being prescribed and the potential for abuse and addiction, it is important to use them only when needed and dispose of any unused or expired medications responsibly. To help prevent abuse, the Wisconsin Department of Justice offers Drug Take Back Days when you can safely dispose of medications so they don't fall into the wrong hands.

The next event is on Saturday, October 22 at locations around the state. There are over a dozen locations in Kenosha and Racine counties, and you can find the site closest to you on this interactive map. At the event, you can safely dispose of controlled and uncontrolled substances, over-the-counter medications, ointments, patches creams, non-aerosol sprays, vials, and even pet medications. I would urge everyone to take advantage of this program; you could help save a life!

Mourning the Loss of Senator Rick Gudex

Last week, I was deeply saddened by the loss of my dear colleague, Rick Gudex. Rick was a good senator, and an even better person. He was a champion for our state, and worked hard to make it a better place. Please hold Rick's family in your prayers during this time of sorrow. May you rest in peace, Rick. We miss you, buddy.
