Van Recognized for Commitment to Conservative Ideals, and Standing Up for Small Businesses

As your Senator, I work for all of the people in the 21st Senate District and it is my firm belief that the best way to improve our future is through making sure our state is fiscally responsible, growing businesses, and whenever possible, putting more money back in the pockets of those who work hard to support themselves and their families. I am proud to fight for these ideas, and I was honored recently to be recognized for my work in the legislature to help make these ideas a reality in our state. I am truly humbled to have received these awards:

Guardian Award: This award is the National Federation of Independent Business' (NFIB) highest honor, and is reserved for elected officials who "tirelessly stood up for the best interests of small business owners in the Legislature."  I was proud to support several bills during the Legislative session that will help our small business community including reducing fraud in unemployment insurance. Our small businesses are the backbone of our economy, and I will proudly keep fighting for small businesses and the men, women and families who support them.

Conservative Excellence Award: This award is given by the American Conservative Union Foundation to elected officials who consistently voted with the ideals articulated in the U.S. Constitution: limited and transparent government, individual rights, personal responsibility, and lasting cultural values. I am proud to receive this award, but I am much more proud to represent the people of the 21st Senate District by voting for legislation such as Civil Service Reform, improving school choice options for special needs students and prohibiting abortion providers, like Planned Parenthood, from receiving state family planning funds.

Although I am thankful for these awards, and others I have received, I think the true value is that it is another way for you to see that I am walking the walk. I am truly humbled to be able to represent our District, and am looking forward to continuing to fight for you in the upcoming legislative sessions.

Congratulations Prairie Girls Golf and Sarah Busey on Winning State!

Parents and students should be very proud after the Prairie School High School girls golf team easily won yet another impressive title at the WIAA State Girls Golf Championship this week. Prairie won the Division 2 team championship for the second straight season, coming in 50 strokes ahead of Spooner, which took second place.

Prairie wasn't the only ones making the 21st Senate District proud- Sarah Busey from St. Catherine's also took home a state tile on Tuesday. Busey won the Division 2 championship and became the first girls golfer from Racine County to win a state championship since 2001.

Congratulations to all the players and their coaches on your well-deserved wins. What an accomplishment!

In the District

On Wednesday, October 12, I was happy to attend the grand opening of the brand new Kwik Trip at 4624 Spring Street in Mount Pleasant.

It is wonderful to see another family owned business opening and more jobs coming to the 21st District! Be sure to stop in to welcome them and experience the friendly atmosphere.
