Office Hours at the Kenosha County Fair

I hope everyone can stop by my office hours this Saturday, August 20th from Noon - 2 pm at the Kenosha County Fair! I enjoy attending the fair every year, and it is a great opportunity for me to hear from folks both young and old. Office hours will be held at the Kenosha County GOP booth in the Commercial Building which is located near the gate closest to Wilmot Union High School.

I enjoy hearing from the great folks in our district every day, but I thought it was important to set aside a designated time at the fair. I am looking forward to meeting with people from across our district, and hearing the issues and concerns effecting them and their families. If you can't make it during the office hours, I still want to hear from you! I will be at the Fair throughout the day today and tomorrow, and I encourage you to stop by and see me when it works for you. See you soon!

The Kenosha County Fair is located at 30820 111th Street in Wilmot. You can find directions here. For more information about the Fair and a schedule of events, click here

New Online Process Streamlines Concealed Carry Renewal and Permitting

The process for applying for, or renewing, a concealed carry license is being streamlined thanks to a new online application process. In 2011, my colleagues and I passed legislation to allow Wisconsinites to carry concealed. I was proud to co-author the bill, and November will mark the five-year anniversary of the first concealed carry weapons (CCW) permit issued in Wisconsin. Since then, hundreds of thousands of concealed carry permits have been issued to Wisconsinites.

The Department of Justice does an admirable job of providing a safe, secure and efficient process for issuing CCW licenses and I am glad to see law-abiding citizens will now be able to apply for or renew their license using a new, convenient website. CCW licenses must be renewed every five years and the Wisconsin DOJ issues renewal notices 120 days in advance of the license's expiration date. The first CCW licenses were issued in Wisconsin on November 11, 2011, so those license holders should have received notifications in the mail early last month. Current license holders should not apply for a renewal until they receive their renewal notice by mail, because notifications contain Unique Identification Number and instructions for each license holder.

If you are up for renewal, you do not need new or additional training. Renewals cost $22 and are good for five years from the date the new license is issued. New CCW licenses require the approved training and cost $40. License renewals and new applications will be processed within 21 days. To visit the new concealed carry website, click here. Or, visit the Wisconsin DOJ website for a list of frequently ask questions about the CCW license.

WI Grand Champion Steer from Union Grove

Another reason to be proud of the 21st Senate District! Union Grove's very own Tori Crisp, who is only 13 years old, raised and exhibited the Grand Champion Steer last week at the Wisconsin State Fair.

The impressive 1,317-pound crossbreed steer, named Brett, was auctioned for $52,500 on August 10th at the 48th Annual Governor's Blue Ribbon Livestock Auction. The Grand Champion was bought by Kenosha Beef International/Birchwood Foods which is also located right here in our district.

Fine Job, Tori! That takes a lot of hard work, and you should be very proud.
