Governor Recognizes Wilmot Decathlon Team

Governor Scott Walker congratulated the Wilmot Union High School Academic Decathlon team this week, for winning the Division II National Championship and their third consecutive state title. Governor Walker also proclaimed June 1, 2016 as Wilmot Union High School Academic Decathlon Team Day throughout the state! Click here to read the official proclamation.

The team, which included Carlie Banchi, Joseph Burba, Angela Schumacher, Carl Simmons, Alexa Lewis, Ashley Dabbs, Brenna Simmons, Issac Bruley and Kyle Kostrove, represented Wisconsin at the 35th Annual National Finals in Anchorage Alaska in April. The Academic Decathlon requires students to master ten different skills and participate in five types of events: SuperQuiz, Speech, Interview, Essay and Tests of Knowledge. Participants included the Academic Decathlon champions from 32 US high schools, 13 teams from China, two teams from England, and one team from Canada.

Not only did the Wilmot team bring home their second National Title, but they also won 41 medals, six cash scholarships and placed 1st in the Super Quiz Relay, among Division II teams. These are awesome accomplishments, and deserve recognition. The team, and their coaches, Don Serkowski and Kaitlyn Keleher, should be very proud. Congratulations, Wilmot Union High School Academic Decathlon Team!

Giese Students Awarded "Read More" U.S. Flag Award

On Tuesday, May 31, I had the honor of presenting the "Read More" U.S. Flag Award to Mrs. Jensen's 2nd Grade Class at Giese Elementary. The student's received the award for exceeding the number of books read last year, and reading an impressive 3,075 books!

Aaron Payne (back row, far left) took the initiative to read the extra book needed to get to 3,075, and was awarded a governor's pen used by Governor Walker to sign legislation into law for his efforts. Fine Job, students!

Don't Miss Pancake & Safety Day

Come support the Kansasville Fire and Rescue Department while enjoying a great breakfast and fun activities at the Department's Pancake and Safety Day on Sunday, July 10.

This event is a great opportunity to see fire and EMS demonstrations, and let little ones see the Fire Engines and Ambulances up close. The event also helps support the department, with past proceeds going toward much-needed equipment for volunteer members.

"National Time Out Day" Seeks to Improve Patient Safety

Each week, up to 40 surgeries are performed on the wrong site, according to the Joint Commission. This number is shockingly high, and the National Time Out Day initiative was created to help raise awareness and prevent errors by ensuring that all members of the surgical team pause before invasive procedures, so they can communicate as a group and confirm key information about the patient and the procedure.

National Time Out Day will be celebrated in hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers around the country on June 8, 2016. Click here, if you would like to learn more about National Time Out Day or to get involved.
