Remembering our Fallen Heroes
During this holiday weekend, please take time to remember the many brave men and women who have given their lives in dedication to our country. Our freedom comes at a great price, and the debt we owe to our fallen heroes can never be repaid. This Memorial Day, and every day, I am deeply grateful for those soldiers who have made the ultimate sacrifice, were disabled in the line of duty, and for the many men and women who continue to serve our country valiantly.
I hope that you all have a safe and blessed Memorial Day and enjoy time with friends and family.

Burlington Awarded Tourism Grant for ChocolateFest
Burlington ChocolateFest, which is coming up this weekend, is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, and got a sweet surprise when they were awarded a $20,000 Grant from the Wisconsin Department of Tourism this week. The grant will be used to expand marketing in order to attract out of town guests to the community and ChocolateFest. Event organizers are hoping to welcome around 35,600 attendees this year, for an estimated $514,000 in visitor spending! For those who haven't experienced this wonderful event, ChocolateFest features more than 30 chocolate vendors, a carnival parade and firework show, as well as the annual Chocoholic 5k run-walk and Chocolate City Bike Ride. I hope you will join me at this great event, which runs from May 27-30. Get more information and a schedule of events here.

Communications Academy Annual Senior Showcase

I recently had the opportunity to attend the Communications Academy Annual Senior Showcase at the Indian Trail High School Academy with Kenosha Sheriff Sgt. Dan Ruth and Media Arts Teacher and Chairperson Sandra Bleser (pictured above). This event is the capstone for all Communications Academy seniors, and allows students to showcase their skills and knowledge through a portfolio presentation that demonstrates specific skills or technologies learned within the academy, and how they can be applied within the fields they hope to enter professionally. The event also gives students a change to network with industry professionals, learn from them, set goals, and help them make more informed decision. This event is an awesome way to help students prepare for their futures, and I was very impressed with the students and the quality of work presented. Congratulations to all of the students who participated in the event, including Hannah Adam, Erik Aguilar, Joge Aguilar, Amber Barczynski, Jeralynn Borges, Valencia Campbell, Julia Conforti, Karli Dellar, Nikiya Edmond, Guillermo Godinez, Derek Gonzalez-Gamez, Holden Henry, Hope Hummel, Delana Johnson, Andres Lira, Vincent MacKay, Matthew McClure, Anna Matson, Gloria Morales, Adriana Moreno-Maya, Beatrice Muresanu, Jada Peters, Dakota Vernezze, Anthony Rose, Andrea Johnson, Chantelle Rose, Giovanny Garcia, Ana Murguia-Espino, and Viktoria Kexel. Fine Job!
