Kenosha Woman Wins Trailblazer Award

This week, Governor Walker announced the recipients of the 2016 Trailblazer Awards for Women in Business. Trailblazer awards recognize the rich legacy of women's business ownership in Wisconsin. Women led-businesses are an integral part of  our state economy and pillars in our communities.

I am proud that one of Kenosha County's own is among the recipients. Carol Oxley, President of Target Corporation in Pleasant Prairie, is being recognized with a prestigious Business Pioneer Award. Target Corporation provides electronic printed circuit board assembly and other manufacturing services largely as a military defense contractor. Carol purchased the company in 1988, and has been providing manufacturing jobs in southeastern Wisconsin for over 25 years.

Carol is indeed a pioneer in her industry, and this award recognizes her contributions not only to the high-tech industry, but also to our communities. Congratulations, Carol and to all the 2016 Trailblazer Award recipients! Your leadership strengthens our state and is an example for future entrepreneurs.

In the District

On Tuesday, April 12, I attended the Groundbreaking Ceremony at Brookside Care Center in Kenosha. The county is planning a $20 million expansion and renovation to be completed in 2018. I was honored to be part of the kickoff for this exciting project.

On Wednesday, April 13, I was honored to attend the volunteer luncheon at the Union Grove Veterans Home. April is National Volunteer month, and the luncheon honored 199 dedicated volunteers who contributed over 10,000 hours of their time to our great Vets. I was pleased to join Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Scocos and District 4 Vice Commander Tim Baranzyk (pictured above) in recognizing these fantastic individuals. What a great group of people!

In the Capitol

On Wednesday, April 13, UW students came to the Capitol to participate in "Posters in the Rotunda." The event showcases the impressive research being done by our undergraduate students at University of Wisconsin campuses. This year featured six students from the district with project topics ranging from ecological restoration to a mobile app for emergency preparedness. Displaying their hard work were Michele Gloede, Liv Gripko, Rebekah Mokry, and Kyle Zawacki from UW-Parkside; Austin Chriske from UW-Whitewater; and Kelli Huchinson from UW-Green Bay. What an impressive group of students! Congratulations, and thank you for sharing your work with us!
