 Rails to Trails

Over the past few months I have heard from a lot of folks that support the "Rails to Trails" initiative which would complete the extension of the recreation trail on the abandoned railroad that runs through Racine County. I am excited to see such great enthusiasm for the project!

Rails to Trails has brought great opportunities for people to be outdoors and be active. Wisconsin and Racine County is rich in natural beauty and this project only enhances that. This project would benefit the community greatly, aesthetically and economically, and I support it wholeheartedly. I have talked to many of you about this issue, and wanted to give you an update on the status of the project.

I have been involved in multiple discussions on the issue, and Representative Robin Vos and I have had several constructive meetings with local officials. Currently, the value of the land on which the trail is on is extremely high. The DNR has begun negotiations with the owners of the railroad, but I do expect the process to be lengthy. I am looking forward to continuing to work with local officials on the issue, and am very hopeful a positive resolution can be reached. As the process continues, I will be sure to keep you updated on the progress.

Department of Corrections Town Hall

The Department of Corrections will be holding a Town Hall meeting, on Wednesday, September 14 from 5:30-7 pm at the Ives Grove Auditorium.

This is a great opportunity to get involved and share your input on how we can better our corrections process. I hope those of you that have thoughts or suggestions will mark the date on your calendar.

Kenosha County Job Fair

If you are looking for a new job or wondering what other opportunities might be available, don't miss Kenosha County's largest job fair. The Kenosha County Job Fair is this Wednesday, September 14 from 1 pm to 4 pm at the Madrigrano Auditorium at Gateway Technical College.

This is a great opportunity to learn more about local employers and find out what opportunities may be out there for you! For more information, call 262-697-4610 or email Business.Services@kenoshacounty.org. Pass it along, and help spread the word!

One of the services I am proud to offer my constituents is State of Wisconsin Blue Books and Highway Maps. I am happy to provide these resources free of charge to those who live in the 21st Senate District. The resources include a map of the entire State of Wisconsin, a map of just Kenosha and Racine Counties and Blue Books (which contain some great information about the three branches of government, a copy of the Wisconsin Constitution, contact information for elected officials and statistics about our state).

To receive your free Blue Book, State Map or Kenosha/Racine Counties Map, just send me an email to Sen.Wanggaard@legis.wi.gov with your name and mailing address. Please be sure to note which resources you would like!
