Office Hours at the Racine County Fair

I am humbled to be your State Senator, and one of the most important parts of my job is to listen to all of the folks that I have the honor of representing. I believe good ideas come from everywhere, and I want to hear from you! Please stop by the Racine County Fair next week to share your thoughts on how our state is doing and how we can make it even better.

Office Hours will be held inside Gate 5 near the intersection of Polley Drive and Creuziger Lane on Wednesday, July 27 from 3 - 5 pm and Saturday, July 30 between 10 am - noon. See you there!

Honoring Officer Michael Ventura

Flags were flown at half staff on Thursday, July 14 as a mark of respect for Officer Michael Ventura who gave his life in the line of duty in a tragic car accident on July 8. Officer Ventura served on the Salem Police Department and was 33 years old.

Law Enforcement Officers keep our neighborhoods safe and selflessly shield our children and loved ones from harm. Officers put everything on the line for others every day and are pillars in our communities. Michael Ventura gave everything in the line of duty, and my thanks go out to him and my thoughts and prayers are with his family.

New App Helps Stop Human Trafficking

It is hard to imagine, but human trafficking is a very real problem in our state. Statewide, 10 Wisconsin children were rescued from trafficking and 100 suspects were arrested over one weekend in 2013 during a nationwide FBI investigation.

Last year, I cosponsored Assembly Bill 16 to create a human trafficking awareness campaign to help combat this horrible crime. Although this is one step, human trafficking continues to grow in our state, and there is no silver bullet. But, a recent project has made it possible for everyone with a smart phone to get involved and help stamp out human trafficking. A new app, called Traffic Cam, is free to download and lets users help authorities find and save victims. All you have to do is use the app to download four pictures of your room, every time you stay in a hotel. The photos are then added to a database, which helps authorities identify hotel rooms all across the state.

Human trafficking is a problem that can seem too big for one person to solve, but this is a free way that every person can help victims and make a real difference. I am excited that this new technology is available, and urge you to help every time you stay at a hotel.

New Contest to Find the "Coolest Thing Made in Wisconsin"

What's the coolest thing made in Wisconsin? Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce (WMC) announced a competition to find out. We all know that the 21st Senate District is home to a wealth of businesses who make amazing products that many Wisconsinites might not know come from southern Wisconsin.

So, show your hometown pride by nominating a company in your area! Start by visiting www.madeinwis.com to learn more and nominate your favorite business.
