Free Fishing Weekend Set for January 20-21

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) recently announced the dates for Free Fishing Weekend, in which all residents and visitors will be allowed to fish and partake in free ice fishing clinics without a license. All Wisconsin waters aside from spring trout ponds will be open to participants on Saturday, January 20 and Sunday, January 21.

Free Fishing Weekend serves as one of the best opportunities for anglers to introduce family members and friends to the iconic Wisconsin recreational activity. Moreover, early catch and release trout season (which commenced last week and normally requires a fishing license and inland trout stamp) will be open to all individuals.

With the exception of ice augers, several DNR tackle loaning sites will be offering ice fishing gear for participants lacking the proper equipment. Additionally, eight locations have been listed by the DNR that will be hosting free fishing clinics during the weekend. For more information on the clinic locations, tackle loaning sites, and other Free Fishing Weekend opportunities, please visit the following DNR webpage.
