Legislation focuses on lowering cost for working families and seniors

MADISON - Today, Senator Kristin Dassler-Alfheim (D-Appleton) authored her first three pieces of legislation, alongside her Democratic colleagues, aimed at lowering costs for working families and seniors. The legislative package was released ten days after the Senator took the oath of office.

“This package addresses three big goals: feed kids, provide tax relief, and lower the cost of prescription drugs – goals that I think everyone, regardless of party affiliation, can get behind. This package directly addresses one of the main concerns that we hear from Wisconsinites over and over again – the rising cost of living.”

Senator Dassler-Alfheim was sworn in as a freshman senator representing the 18th Senate District on January 6, 2025. Her district encompasses the cities of Oshkosh, Neenah, Menasha, and Appleton.

This session she will serve on the Committee on Financial Institutions and Sporting Heritage (ranking member), the Committee on Insurance, Housing, Rural Issues, and Forestry, and on the Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority (WHEDA) Board. Additionally, she has been named to the Sporting Heritage Council and the Women’s Council.

Senator Dassler-Alfheim hails from Appleton, where she lives with her family and their black lab, Hank. She works as a retirement planner, and currently serves on the City of Appleton’s Common Council. Previously, she has served as an advocate for the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA) and the Alzheimer’s Association.

“I’m proud to be here representing the people of the 18th Senate District and I’m excited that we’re hitting the ground running,” she said. “This package is only the beginning!”
