Madison, WI – On May 6, the Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority (WHEDA) announced that applications were open for the spring application cycle of the newly updated  Infrastructure Access, Restore Main Street, and Vacancy-to-Vitality competitive loan programs. 

“The housing shortage is a big factor contributing to the high cost of living right now. High construction costs and the lack of housing supply is increasingly pricing working families out of buying a home, and that’s why I helped to pass AB 194, which updates these three programs to encourage new housing construction,” said Senator Dassler-Alfheim. 

Assembly Bill 194/Senate Bill 180, now 2025 Wisconsin Act 237, updated the Infrastructure Access, Restore Main Street, and Vacancy-to-Vitality loan programs to encourage new housing construction. Sen. Dassler-Alfheim was a co-author on Senate Bill 180, voted in favor of it when it came up for a vote in the Senate Committee on Insurance, Housing, Rural Issues, and Forestry, and ultimately voted in favor of passage of AB 194 on the floor. 

“I’m hopeful that developers in the Fox Valley and across Wisconsin will be able to take advantage of these awesome programs to start building the affordable housing we so desperately need.
