Sen. Howard Marklein’s Statement on Governor’s State of the State Address

Madison, WI – Senator Howard Marklein (R-Spring Green) offered the following statement regarding Governor Tony Evers’ State of the State Address:

“Governor Evers described his plans and ideas for the future of Wisconsin tonight. I am not surprised by most of his announcements, but I wonder where the dollars will come from to pay for these ideas and whether rural Wisconsin will receive the attention we deserve. While there are things we can agree on, our approaches differ.”

“No matter what, I will continue to focus on what is best for the people of the 17th Senate District and all of Wisconsin. I remain committed to my goals to serve those I represent, lead legislation that makes a difference, steward the state budget, champion rural issues and defend our reforms.”

“I will work with all of my colleagues, as well as the Governor, to get things done.  But I will also be watching Wisconsin’s checkbook. I am committed to championing good policy that makes sound fiscal sense.”

Marklein represents the 17th Senate District, which includes all or parts Grant, Green, Iowa, Juneau, Lafayette, Monroe, Richland, Sauk and Vernon counties. Marklein serves on the legislature’s budget-writing Joint Finance Committee and is Chair of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Revenue & Financial Institutions.
