Sen. Howard Marklein Statement on State Employee Compensation Plan Approval

MADISON, WI – Sen. Howard Marklein (R-Spring Green) issued a statement following the actions of the Joint Committee on Employment Relations (JCOER) approval of the State Employee Compensation Plan:

“Today, we approved increased compensation for state employees, including specific adjustments for corrections and healthcare staff who are facing tremendous staff shortages and retention challenges.

I heard from many staff from the Department of Corrections who asked for our support. I recognize the challenges that they have in their institutions. Today, we acknowledged and responded with additional compensation for these hard-working staff.

They deal with incredibly tough clientele and put their lives on the line to keep us safe.

We also increased compensation for University of Wisconsin employees by 2% in each of the next two fiscal years. I represent many UW employees and respect their unique role in our communities.

It was appropriate to make these investments in our state’s hardworking workforce in order to remain competitive in today’s tight job market.”
