Marklein Statement on Senator Alberta Darling's Retirement

MADISON – Sen. Howard Marklein (R-Spring Green) made the following statement following the announcement that Senator Alberta Darling (R-River Hills) will be retiring from the Wisconsin State Senate:

“I will miss my colleague, and friend, Alberta as she retires from the Wisconsin State Senate. She has been a tremendous mentor for me as a member and co-chair of the Joint Committee on Finance and her resignation will leave a distinct gap in our caucus.

Alberta’s leadership on the JFC set Wisconsin on a trajectory to be in the best financial shape in our history. As co-chair of the JFC, she fought tough battles, remained strong and put the people of Wisconsin first throughout her career. She advocated for her constituents and the communities of southeast Wisconsin and led on all kinds of issues from health care to education. I aspire to follow her lead, even though she has given us all big shoes to fill.

I wish Alberta my best as she retires. I will miss her contributions to our caucus, as well as her guidance and leadership that has taught me to be a better Senator on behalf of the people I serve.”
