BELOIT - As the regulation of data centers continues to be an active point of debate in Rock County and across Wisconsin, State Senator Mark Spreitzer and Representative Clinton Anderson announced they are lead authors of a bill that would protect Wisconsin families and small businesses from paying for energy costs caused by the expansion of data centers.

“I have been a leading voice on the regulation of data centers in Wisconsin, and I recognize that conversation will continue after this legislative session is over. However, with data center projects being discussed in the City of Janesville and now in the Town of Beloit, this is an issue that will directly impact energy costs for our friends, neighbors, and constituents. It is crystal clear that Wisconsin families and small businesses should not foot the bill for energy costs driven by Big Tech data center projects.

This bill ensures that the Public Service Commission steps in to ensure rates for data centers are fair and that everyone else isn’t footing the bill for the costs data centers create. If a rate is found to be unreasonable or preferential, the PSC must adjust it so the big companies pay their share. This is about holding powerful interests accountable and protecting working families right here in Wisconsin.”
