Senator Janis Ringhand statement on Joint Finance Committee refusal to fund UW-Whitewater building projects
Last night the Joint Committee on Finance took up the Governor’s 2021 – 23 Capital Budget. Below is Senator Ringhand’s statement on the committee’s failure to enumerate and fund UW – Whitewater’s budget request.
“I was very disappointed to see that all the Republican’s on the Joint Committee on Finance failed to support UW – Whitewater’s request for funding to renovate Winther Hall, replace Heide Hall’s roofing and windows and construct new entrances on both buildings. Winther Hall was built in 1969 and Heide Hall was constructed in 1965. I have toured both buildings and it is easy to see they are in need of substantial upgrading.
Winther and Heide Hall’s needs are not going to magically disappear. Pushing these projects into the future means they are going to cost more. It’s unfortunate that Sen. Marklien, co-chair of the committee and UW – Whitewater alum, could not push these projects through and continues to support the Republicans foolish budgeting that will cost taxpayers more in the long run.”
