American Heart Month
* Click picture above to play my video message*
I'm State Senator Joan Ballweg.
Over 30 million Americans have been diagnosed with heart disease, and even in the year of COVID-19, it's ranked as the leading cause of death in the United States accounting for one of every four deaths.
That is why I am authoring a joint resolution declaring February as American Heart Month in Wisconsin. American Heart Month aims to raise awareness about the risk of heart disease and promote prevention efforts.
It is estimated 80% of cardiac events could be prevented by implementing a healthy diet and lifestyle choices. Some recommendations for protecting yourself include:
Reducing sodium in your diet
Living a healthy lifestyle and staying physically active
Asking your doctor about your cholesterol, blood pressure and A1C
Thanks for watching, and have a great and healthy Wisconsin week!
Go Red For Women: Wear Red Day
The American Heart Association's Go Red for Women initiative seeks to empower women to take control of their heart health. Heart disease continues to be the number one killer of women; taking one woman's life every 80 seconds.
My office plans to participate in this movement by wearing red tomorrow for Wear Red Day. See my list of preventative tips above!
WIS 33 Project: Seeking Input
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WISDOT) is seeking public input on proposed improvements between the Village of Randolph and the Village of Cambria. The proposed improvements include removing existing surface and repaving 6.75 inches of new material, replacing culverts, replacing the deck of a bridge and adding new pavement markings.
Additionally, two routes are being considered for the detour during construction. More information on the project and who to contact with feedback can be found on the WISDOT website.
