(DeForest): State Representative John Jagler (R-Watertown) has been named 2017 Legislator of
the Year by the American Legion of Wisconsin's Third District.

Rep. Jagler was presented the award at an American Legion Olson-Grinde Post 348 meeting in
DeForest where he was thanked for his legislative work on behalf of veterans.

"Our veterans are the heroes of this state and deserve the best we can give them," Rep. Jagler
said. "I have always worked to be their voice in Madison and am greatly honored to receive this
award."

Post Commander Bill Ridgely specifically mentioned a bill Rep. Jagler authored this session to
make November 11th a state legal holiday. Wisconsin is the only state in the country that doesn't
recognize Veterans Day as a holiday. The bill, which doesn't add a holiday for state workers but
replaces a floating holiday, has already been approved by the state senate.

“Our state has a history of caring for our veterans so I was astounded when I was told that we
were the only state that did not recognize Veterans Day as a legal holiday,” said Rep. Jagler.
