This week concludes my first round of listening sessions. I’d like to thank everyone who took the time to come out and share their opinions with me.
Legislative Update
This week the Joint Finance Committee (JFC) began voting on individual provisions in the Governor’s proposed budget. This week they removed Governor Evers’s over $1 billion tax increase, while still making investments in mental health and substance abuse treatment. They also removed 71 non-fiscal items from the budget, which were identified by the Legislative Fiscal Bureau. A provision that would allow drivers licenses and tuition breaks for illegal aliens were also removed. The JFC will continue to meet on the Governor’s proposed budget. Next week the Assembly will be taking up several abortion related bills, including AB 179, which specifies that if during an abortion attempt the child is born alive that medical professionals who are present must make efforts to save the child and AB 180, which clarifies informed consent procedures for women receiving abortion inducing medications.
