First Responder of the Year Award

Earlier this week Speaker Vos announced the Assembly’s inaugural First Responder of the Year award program. The program honors and recognizes the hard work and dedication of first responders. A winner from each district will be honored on the Assembly floor in October.

If you have someone you would like to nominate please submit them to Rep.Jagler@legis.wisconsin.gov by the second week in September.

West Nile Found in Jefferson County

The Jefferson County Health Department has released information that a crow tested positive for the West Nile virus. The virus is spread by mosquitoes who bite infected animals and then spread it to others. The Wisconsin Department of Health Services has been monitoring the spread of West Nile since 2001. It is important to note that less than 1 percent of people who become infected with the virus become seriously ill. Symptoms include fever, muscle weakness, stiff neck, disorientation, tremors and paralysis.

The Jefferson County Health Department recommends the following:

  1. Limit time outside during dawn/dusk, when mosquitoes are most active.
  2. Apply insect repellent.
  3. Make sure window and door screens will prevent mosquitoes from entering your home.
  4. Remove stagnant water around one’s property to limit mosquito breeding.
