Veterans Day Bill Moves On Assembly Bill 163, which designates November 11th (Veteran’s Day) as a state holiday, is a bill I authored at the request of veterans from the De Forest area. Currently, state employees receive a “floating holiday” for Veterans Day, but this bill would create a holiday on November 11th, with the hope that it will increase attendance at events to honor our veterans as well as allow veterans to receive the support of their families on a day that some find difficult. The bill had an executive session in the Committee on State Affairs yesterday. It passed unanimously out of the committee. The next step is for the bill to head to the floor.
Special Needs Scholarship
Senator Leah Vukmir and I received special “Thank you” cards from some of the kids from St. Colletta School. It includes the names of the first 200 kids to get scholarships. Senator Vukmir and I fought hard for the special needs scholarship program and it was great to see some of the first recipients! Can’t wait to get their artwork up in my office!
