DeForest Village Board
 

Wednesday evening I was in DeForest to address the Village Board and give an update on the Governor’s proposed budget. It was a great to be able to tell Village President Judd Blau and the trustees that the budget includes a large increase to local governments to build and maintain roads, something I support.

Related to the Governor’s budget, the Joint Committee on Finance announced four public hearings on Governor Walker’s budget proposal:

Veterans Day 

Before the DeForest Board meeting I met up with Bill Ridgely and other veterans to discuss making Veterans Day an official state holiday. I will keep you updated as I move forward with authoring this legislation.

Legislative Update

Recently the Wisconsin State Senate approved a measure that would expand access to CBD oil, allowing people to possess the oil with permission from a doctor. Advocates for the oil state that it can be used to treat seizures in children; and I have heard from parents in the district about how this oil has helped their children. Also this week, a public hearing was held on Assembly Bill 69, which would allow terminally ill patients with no other options to try experimental drugs. The treatments allowed under the bill would have had to have passed a phase one FDA test, meaning they’ve been judged less likely to kill patients, but still have not been shown to be an effective treatment.

As someone who is pro-life, I believe that also means supporting those who are fighting terminal disease, and improving quality of life for those who are suffering, and it is for these reasons that I support these bills.
