Forestry Informational Hearing



This Wednesday, my Senate Committee on Insurance, Licensing and Forestry held a Joint Informational Hearing with Rep. Mursau's Assembly Forestry Committee on the state of the timber and forest products industries in Wisconsin.

Our esteemed speakers, including Great Lakes Timber Professionals Association Director Henry Schienebeck, Wisconsin County Forests Association Executive Director Rebekah Luedke, WEDC CEO Sam Rikkers, Wisconsin Chief Forester Heather Berklund, and Menominee Indian Tribe of Wisconsin Chairman Corn all gave enlightening and informative testimony as to the challenges the industries are currently facing and how they impact our state's small businesses, local governments, tribes, and economy. I appreciated the thoughtful questions from the committee members and the discussions we had on how the state can help the industry adapt and move forward.

WPS Emergency Response

 



Wisconsin Public Service (WPS) crews remain hard at work restoring power after 60-plus mile per hour winds blasted across our service area. Crews are working to clear downed trees, replace broken utility poles and repair numerous downed power lines that have been damaged by the destructive winds.

With the high winds continuing, we are seeing more outages and damage to their network. Unfortunately, repairs in some areas will take longer, so they recommend being prepared for an extended outage.

All available crews and resources are assisting working to make repairs as safely and quickly as possible.

Report outages
Customers have several ways to report outages:
• The free WPS mobile app
• Online at wisconsinpublicservice.com/OutageManagement
• Call 800-450-7240 and follow the automated prompts

For the fastest service, customers should have their account number ready or provide the phone number associated with their account.

Downed lines
If customers come across a downed line they should always assume it is energized. Customers should stay at least 25 feet away from the line and contact WPS or local law enforcement as soon as possible.

Power outage safety tips
They work to maintain a reliable power delivery system, but severe weather and other events sometimes cause power outages that require many hours and even days to address. Be prepared and know what to do should a power outage occur. wisconsinpublicservice.com/safety/storm



Business Roundtable in Oconto Falls

 



Yesterday, I joined community business leaders at HSHS St. Clare Memorial Hospital in Oconto Falls for a roundtable discussion on challenges facing employers in regards to access to childcare.

Following the roundtable, I met with hospital staff and had the opportunity to discuss some of the issues they are seeing.




T-Mobile Grant for Wausaukee



I am pleased to share that the Village of Wausaukee has recently been selected to receive a T-Mobile Hometown Grant! The $50,000 grant will jump-start renovations on the Community Center Library.

The grant was awarded to Wausaukee on Tuesday night at the third annual Supper with Santa.
