Senate Floor Session

On Monday, the State Senate convened for a floor session to take up a number of bills. Here are a few we passed:

Senate Bill 570: Relating to: limiting civil liability for firearm, firearm accessory, and ammunition manufacturers, distributors, importers, trade associations, sellers, and dealers. This is already the case on the federal level, but makes sure Wisconsin has this law in place if the federal government changes their mind.

Senate Bill 585: Relating to: reporting certain crimes and other incidents that occur on school property or school transportation and granting rule-making authority. If crime is occurring, this will allow you to know what kind of crime is happening at your child's school - giving parents the necessary information to know their kids are safe.

Senate Bill 588:
Relating to: changes to insurance laws, including issuance of funding agreements, granting rule-making authority, and providing a penalty. This is typical procedure to make technical changes on behalf of the Office of the Commissioner of Insurance based off of federal changes to law.

Senate Bill 607:
Relating to: the threshold amount of timber sold from state, county, or community forests above which certain approval and notice requirements apply. I talked about this in last weeks Felzkowski Flyer.

Senate Bill 621:
Relating to: legislative redistricting. This happens every 10 years based off of national census data and it is a constitutional requirement that the Legislature pass maps.

School Spending Transparency

In last weeks Felzkowski Flyer, I talked about my School Spending Transparency bill. Above is a video that explains the bill and why it's beneficial for Wisconsin.

Veterans Day

Yesterday was Veterans Day, a day in which we come together as a nation to honor the heroes in our community that have served our country and sacrificed to protect our way of life.

Thank you Veterans!

CMS Vaccine Mandate

Over the last few days I've heard from many constituents who are deeply concerned about losing their jobs due to the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) vaccine mandate on all health care workers.

Currently, there is a multi-state lawsuit against this order - filed by the Attorneys General in Alaska, Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wyoming.

Alaska's Attorney General, Treg Taylor, lays out the reasoning for this lawsuit below:

“The 10th Amendment prohibits federal agencies from taking away powers that are reserved to the states, which know best how to enact the kinds of public health measures to best fit the needs of its citizens,” Attorney General Taylor said. “This rule would punish our rural hospitals and countless health care workers across Alaska by withholding Medicare and Medicaid funding if they don’t comply with a mandate. The courts have already stopped one overreaching federal vaccine mandate in the 5th U.S. Circuit of Appeals, and we hope this one will be blocked as well.”

While Wisconsin's Attorney General, Josh Kaul, has no desire to join this lawsuit on behalf of our health care heroes, the overall verdict could have major implications nationwide.

Antigo High School Tour
