Wisconsin’s Manufacturers and Producers Essential to COVID-19 Fight

Governor Evers:

I am receiving numerous contacts from agricultural producers, manufacturers and distributors regarding how the state might define “essential services and businesses” in coming days with further emergency orders.  Many of these food producers, manufacturers and distributors are key providers in the supply chain for food service/production, health care supplies and other vital daily supplies that our society will need now more of than ever before as we fight this virus.

Case in point, just this morning Bob Klockars, CEO, of PolyPail Inc., of Delavan, Wisconsin contacted me with his urgent concerns.  PolyPail manufactures their pails to meet the highest standards in food containers.  These pails are critical for those companies producing our food and distributing it safely.

I recognize the serious challenges faced by the administration in meeting this public health crisis.  However, we must also recognize that this will be a long term fight that will require a war-like commitment for most, if not all, of this state’s producers and manufacturers.

As you focus on the immediate challenges, please don’t ignore the reality of the necessary risks we must take to keep our society functioning and capable of defeating this invisible enemy.  We can’t completely shut down our strongest assets and expect to win this battle.
