Senator Nass Announces Office Budget Reductions

As the Wisconsin economy continues to be devastated by Covid-19 and the stringent restrictions adopted by Governor Tony Evers’ administration, I wanted to share with you the steps being taken in my State Senate office to address the growing financial crisis.  In recent weeks, every family and business in the 11th Senate District has found it necessary to make some difficult choices in adjusting their budgets.

The same will be true in government at all levels.  Today, I made decisions to reduce spending in my state office and salary accounts for the remainder of 2020 to achieve significant savings.

-First, I have decided to suspend the hiring process for a legislative assistant position in my office and leave that position vacant through at least January 1, 2021.
-Second, my remaining staff will not receive any performance based salary increases through at least January 1, 2021.
-Third, I have directed my staff to make adjustments to the operation of our office that will significantly reduce expenditures for supplies and other operational expenses through the remainder of 2020.

These actions will create savings of approximately $110,000 or about an 18% reduction in salary and office expenses allocated to my state office account.

It is also likely that additional reductions including furloughs or layoffs will be implemented across the Legislature as the state nears the beginning of the new fiscal year on July 1st.
