Evers’ Badger Bounce Back Plan – Bounces More People Toward Bankruptcy

Senator Steve Nass (R-Whitewater) issued the following statement in response to Governor Tony Evers’ announcement that the Department of Health Services (DHS) would be issuing Public Health Order #31 referred to as the “Badger Bounce Back Plan:”

“Governor Evers and DHS Secretary-Designee Andrea Palm released another improper public health order today to take further control of the state’s economy and our daily lives.  Reminiscent of propaganda issued by third-world governments, they give it an uplifting name the ‘Badger Bounce Back Plan,’ but its details are not about bouncing back.  In action, this decree will lead to permanent small business closings and bankruptcies.

It contains Wisconsin specific criteria that the Evers’ administration will use to justify potentially months-long extension of the Safer at Home Restrictions beyond the end of May, while offering unreachable hope for reopening the Wisconsin economy.  They will claim it matches President Trump’s guidelines for reopening the U.S. economy, but the only major similarity is in using 14-day increments.

Rather than working with citizens, business owners, legislators and healthcare officials to develop a consensus plan with realistic criteria for safely reopening our state, the public health order expands the power of Secretary-Designee Palm to exercise nearly unlimited command-and-control over our economy and society.

There can now be little doubt that the extreme actions of Governor Evers and Secretary-Designee Palm has pushed us into a constitutional crisis.”
