Senate Committee Announces Hearing on State Civil Service Reform
Bill
(release date 9/29/15)
Senator Steve Nass (R-Whitewater), Chairman of the Senate Labor
and Government Reform Committee, announced that his committee
will hold a public hearing on the State Civil Service Reform
Bill (LRB-2783/1) on October 6, 2015. The committee will make 7
hours available for testimony on this major reform package for
state government employment. Nass is a cosponsor of the bill.
“Modernizing the antiquated hiring and firing process for state
government is a natural progression in our conservative reform
agenda. Taxpayers have long been frustrated with the failings of
state employment procedures. I commend Senator Roger Roth and
Representative Jim Steineke for a proposal that will improve the
efficiency and effectiveness of state operations,” Nass said.
Nass noted that the Senate Labor and Government Reform Committee
has led previously on two other major reforms: Right to Work (SB
44) and Repeal of the Prevailing Wage Law (SB 49). The details
of the State Civil Service Reform public hearing are:
- A public hearing on Tuesday, October 6, 2015, in Room 411 South of the
State Capitol.
- The public hearing will start at 8:30 a.m., and recess at 11:50 a.m.,
for partisan caucuses.
- The committee will reconvene at 2:15 p.m., and take testimony until 6:00
p.m., that evening.
- Depending on the number of registrants wishing to speak, the Chairman
may find it necessary to utilize a time limit for each speaker.
The time limit may be adjusted throughout the public hearing in
order to accommodate the number of registrants.
- In the event that more speakers register than time permits to speak,
their registrations of speaking for or against the legislation
will be changed to registering for or against.
