UW System Refuses to Comply with State Administrative Rules Law

System moving forward with unlawful Covid-19 mandates on students and visitors.

Senator Steve Nass (R-Whitewater) Co-chairman of the Joint Committee for Review of Administrative Rules (JCRAR), released the following statement in response to UW System Interim President Tommy Thompson's announcement they will not comply with state law regarding Covid-19 campus mandates:

"It is not surprising that the Ivory Tower administrators at the UW System are openly defying state law to issue Covid-19 mandates to control every adult that dares to walk on their campuses with the notable exception of 70,000 plus ticket paying fans at football games in Madison.  Apparently, the UW System has discovered that revenue generating football games don't spread Covid-19.
It is sad that Interim President Tommy Thompson has once again shown his belief in big government control over the rights of individuals to make their own health related decisions.  This fight is not solely about mask mandates or testing requirements.
This fight is really about the desire of multiple chancellors to dictate every student, employee and campus visitor be vaccinated for Covid-19 or be banished from their
campuses.
After the September 2nd deadline, I will be requesting that Speaker Robin Vos and Senate Majority Leader Devin LeMahieu commence legal action on behalf of JCRAR and the Legislature to force the UW System to comply with state law."
