Statement on Today's Attack on Democracy

MADISON - The following is a statement of Senate Democratic Leader Chris Larson on the Appeals Court ruling in favor of restricting democratic freedoms.

"Today's decision to uphold the voter suppression law is disappointing. Luckily, other legal challenges are keeping this restrictive law blocked so that citizens still have the right to vote without unnecessary burdens. Restricting the right to vote is an attack on the most fundamental tenet of democracy – that the people have a say in their government.

"Restricting the ability of voters to make their voices heard at the ballot box ignores the freedoms our founding fathers fought to achieve and our soldiers fight to preserve, and all at a greater cost to Wisconsin taxpayers. Leaders should seek to expand citizen participation in democracy, not try to stifle it."
