W omen’s Health Services Eliminated, Governor to Blame

Madison – State Senator Chris Larson (D–Milwaukee) released the following statement today in response to Planned Parenthood being forced to eliminate certain health services as a result of the war on women being waged by Governor Walker and Republican legislators.

“Today we’re seeing the effects that Governor Walker’s cold disregard for the health of Wisconsin’s women has created. Recently passed legislation is requiring doctors to reduce their quality of care to avoid felony charges. As a result, our neighborhood women’s health centers will no longer be able to offer a full range of services.

“It is undeniable that the extreme agenda being pursued by Governor Walker and his rubber stamp Republican legislators is reducing personal health care options for Wisconsin’s women. Their radical overreach will not only limit the access women have to vital health services but also breaches the privacy of exam rooms by interfering with doctor-patient relationships.

“Republicans have shown time and time again that they couldn’t care less about the health, happiness, or success of our mothers, wives, sisters, and daughters. Governor Walker and Republican legislators also rammed through other attacks on women’s rights this session including removing equal pay protections, ending comprehensive sex education, obstructing access to contraception, and eliminating funding for comprehensive women’s health centers that provide life-saving services, such as pap smears and mammograms.

“Governor Walker’s attempts to impress his rich friends is like a kid playing with a hammer. He either does not know or does not care the damage that he is causing, as he crushes opportunity for women, children, and workers. It’s time for Wisconsin to retool.”
