Republican Session Fails Wisconsinites, Favors Special Interests

Madison – State Senator Chris Larson (D–Milwaukee) released the following statement today in response to the conclusion of the 2011-2012 Legislative Session.

“The legislative session is over and if you feel like you need to take a shower, you’re not alone. There’s not enough soap in Wisconsin to wash the stain of divisiveness and secrecy from the fabric of our state.

“This session has been about picking winners and losers. In order to help the big corporations and special interests further their backwards agenda, Governor Walker and his rubberstamp legislators have sacrificed Wisconsin’s jobless, children, and women. Additionally, they have taken unconscionable measures to keep their actions hidden from public scrutiny through signing secrecy pacts, making backroom deals, and setting up a legal defense fund.

“Although Governor Walker and Republican legislators promised to focus on jobs this session, they have utterly failed to follow through and have left many proposed job creation bills untouched. The numbers don’t lie. Wisconsin’s loss of 12,500 jobs in 2011 makes Governor Walker and his rubberstamp legislators the national leaders for job loss. Governor Walker’s budget served as a catalyst for this abysmal performance as Wisconsin experienced six straight months of job loss after it was enacted.

“At a great cost to family, friends, and neighbors, this botched Republican-run session will go down in our state history books as the most divisive and dishonest legislative session ever.”
