Governor Shuts Out Public

Madison – Governor Walker barred the public from the Wisconsin Capitol today for several hours while hundreds of citizens waited in the cold. Sen. Chris Larson (D- Milwaukee) released the following statement in response to this undemocratic action.

“Never in our state’s history have so many people gathered this peacefully at the Wisconsin Capitol to passionately protest and be heard by their government. Unfortunately, Governor Walker once again turned his back to their concerns, when his administration sealed off all Capitol entrances to the public this morning and denied access to Wisconsin citizens. It is time for Republican legislators to step up and show leadership where the governor has failed.

Our state’s Capitol was built to be a place where the people of Wisconsin could have an open dialogue with their representatives. What stronger sign that this governor is on the wrong side of history, than his stopping the flow of our neighbors into the Capitol to strangle their voice.”
