FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Madison, WI - On Wednesday, January 10, 2024, State Senator Chris Larson joined with nearly 200 state and local elected officials from across the country in a joint letter to President Biden demanding that the administration immediately call for and work to facilitate a permanent ceasefire to end the current violence in Israel and occupied Palestinian territory. This follows a bipartisan joint resolution from the legislature calling for a ceasefire.
The letter, drafted by Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP), remains open for additional co-signers for a limited time. Interested colleagues in the legislature, as well as county and municipal officials across Wisconsin, are invited to join in this effort.
As the letter states, “a negotiated ceasefire is the only way to release hostages and Palestinian political prisoners, deliver aid, stop bombing, and save lives.” To date, over 23,000 Palestinians and 1,200 Israelis have been killed by the Israeli government and Hamas, and hundreds more have been taken prisoner.
It’s time to end this senseless violence. The Biden administration has a critical role to play in bringing about a lasting peace. I want to thank Rep. Samba Baldeh, Rep. Francesca Hong, Rep. Ryan Clancy, Rep Darrin Madison, Rep. LaKeshia Myers, Rep. Sheila Stubbs, County Supervisor Juan Miguel Martinez, and School Board Director Missy Zombor for also signing on and for their leadership on this issue of international importance.
