“An exciting day” - Sen. Larson congratulates Sen. Dianne Hesselbein on her election as Senate Democratic Leader

Madison, WI - Today is an exciting day for the future of our Senate Democratic Caucus. 

I want to congratulate Senator Dianne Hesselbein on her election as Senate Democratic Leader. I look forward to continuing to work with her in the struggles to come. For the first time in over a decade, the possibility of fairer legislative maps is near, and we will need a strong vision and capable hand to significantly grow our caucus toward the majority and ultimately deliver tangible results for the people of Wisconsin.

My sincere thanks to outgoing Leader Agard for her service and dedication to maintaining a strong opposition voice amid unprecedented challenges in a deeply divided legislature. It’s a thankless job, and she approached it with open eyes and vigorous effort. I also want to thank Senators Smith and Roys for being willing to serve in this capacity. Both of them bring a wealth of skills to the table and will continue to be essential voices in the Wisconsin State Senate.

As we wind down business at the Capitol for 2023 and prepare for a landmark year in 2024, I am proud to stand alongside Leader Hesselbein, Assistant Leader Smith, and all of my colleagues as we blaze this trail together. Our neighbors deserve a legislature that listens to them and fights tirelessly on their behalf. It’s time Wisconsin once again lived up to its motto: Forward!
