Sen. Larson: The Level of Corruption with Non-public Charter Schools

Hits a New Low

Milwaukee, WI –Senator Chris Larson released the following statement regarding the indictment of former MPS School Board President Michael Bonds.

“The news today about the non-instrumentality charter school Universal Academy is shocking. It is beyond the pale that an elected official was engaged in a kickback scheme that ultimately led to further resources being steered away from our public schools.

“This kind of corruption within an unaccountable charter system is precisely why we must keep our schools as transparent and accountable as possible. I call on my legislative colleagues to join me in signing onto legislation to create true accountability in the trouble-plagued charter and voucher school system. We cannot afford to continue to ignore the fact that privatizing education is an invitation to corruption.”
