Senator Larson Congratulates Moody Park Revitalization Project for Receiving MANDI Award

MADISON – State Senator Chris Larson released the following statement regarding the 17th Annual Milwaukee Awards for Neighborhood Development Innovation (MANDI) awards ceremony, which was held last night.

“For 17 years, the MANDI awards have honored individuals and organizations for their deep commitment to positive and innovative development in Milwaukee.

“I am excited to congratulate those involved in the Moody Park Revitalization project, who received the Public Space Award last night. I am extremely proud of the work that has been carried forward in order to turn Moody Park around. It's taken a lot of hands to keep the ball rolling since 2010, when local leaders in the Amani Neighborhood, our parks department, COA, Supervisor Willie Johnson, and I sat down to see what could be done to address the eyesore that had become Moody Pool.

“As shown by this achievement, the commitment to enhancing and protecting our parks and enriching our neighborhoods is of great importance to the community. Seeing the energy and initiative brought by the individuals who worked to secure the long overdue makeover of Moody Park is inspiring, and I look forward to seeing the completed community center, walking paths, basketball courts, and splash pad next fall.

“It is this type of hard work and solidarity that motivates me to ensure we are investing in our communities, including our parks. In fact, earlier this session I introduced the County Parkland and Heritage Protection Act (Senate Bill 722) to ensure our parklands and cultural properties are protected and remain accessible.

“Congratulations to those involved with the Moody Park Revitalization project for receiving this well-deserved award.”
