Senate Democrats Announce "Veto for Veterans" Petition
Calling on Governor Walker to Veto Legislation Threatening Freedom and Justice for Wisconsin Veterans
MADISON – Today, Senate Democrats announced the release of the "Veto for Veterans" Petition,, a statewide petition calling on Governor Walker to veto Assembly Bill 19, legislation that protects the pocketbooks of big corporations that knowingly exposed veterans and workers to dangerous levels of asbestos.
"Senate Democrats call on Governor Walker to do the right thing for Wisconsin's veterans," said Senate Democratic Leader Chris Larson. "Wisconsin has veterans currently dying from cancer caused by materials they handled while serving. The last thing politicians should be doing is limiting our veterans' access to their equal share of financial relief. We are calling on Governor Walker to do the right thing and put corporations ahead of veterans by vetoing this legislation."
Despite bipartisan opposition, today, the state Legislature approved AB 19. However, this bill could still be stopped with a gubernatorial veto. That is why Senate Democrats are circulating a petition calling on Governor Walker to veto this attack on freedom and justice for Wisconsin's veterans.
