Introduction

Polls show that an increasing number of Americans support legalizing marijuana, also known as cannabis, and Wisconsin is no exception. The February Marquette poll showed that 63% of Wisconsinites support marijuana legalization, and a whopping 86% support medicinal cannabis. Most of our Midwest neighbors have already taken action, leading to millions of dollars in economic activity and tax revenue being transferred from Wisconsin residents to neighboring states.

For example, in 2022, Illinois collected $36.1 million in tax revenue from Wisconsin residents, and Michigan estimates that about half of its cannabis customers come from other states. We should be capturing that tax revenue and economic activity here at home.

With fairer legislative maps in place since 2024, the possibility of breaking the current deadlock over cannabis policy in our state is closer than ever. I want to know where you stand! Please take a few moments to complete this survey. Your responses will help me as I consider various cannabis reform proposals in the 2025 legislative session.

Thank you!

Chris Larson
State Senator
