Statement on the Withdrawal of Planned Changes to Family Care and IRIS

(MADISON) – This morning, DHS secretary Kitty Rhodes announced her department dropped planned changes to Family Care and IRIS, which would have shifted care to for-profit insurers. All four Democrats on the Joint Committee on Finance opposed the changes since day one. Below is a statement about this announcement from Senator Lena Taylor (D-Milwaukee), who serves as the ranking Senate Democrat on the committee:

“While I am pleased to hear that plans to alter Family Care have been dropped, I am aggravated that the 55,000 Wisconsin Residents who rely on both Family Care and IRIS stood in limbo for a year regarding the future of their personal health and well-being. Moving forward, I hope that both the Department and Governor Walker will realize the importance of Family Care and IRIS, and stop trying to destroy a system that supports thousands of Wisconsin residents.”
