MADISON –Senate Democratic Leader Jennifer Shilling announced Democratic committee assignments for the 2015-2016 session. Senator Taylor was appointed to four committees. In addition to being appointed as ranking Democratic Senator on the Joint Finance Committee; Senator Taylor has been appointed to the Agriculture, Small Business & Tourism Committee, Judiciary & Public Safety Committee, and Joint Review on Criminal Penalties Committee.

“I am excited about these appointments, and I am optimistic about the work we can do to address the challenging issues facing our great state,” Taylor said. “These committees give me the opportunity to have a hand in the decision making process on critical issues like growing urban agriculture and justice reinvestment” In regards to her reappointment to the Agriculture committee, Taylor noted that “Milwaukee has the potential to become a hub for urban agriculture, and we have already seen the potential in areas such as forestry, and in successful business like Growing Power.”

“The Judiciary and Public Safety committee will give me a voice at the table during a pivotal point in our state’s trajectory,” Taylor continued. “We have the opportunity to end the entrenched systematic practices that have created a judicial and corrections system that cannot be sustained financially. Now is the time to focus data driven strategies that are proven to reduce recidivism, and to implement plans that address root causes like: mental health, addiction, and joblessness.”

Finally, Taylor commented: “I hope that as Sen. Fitzgerald has kept the Joint Review of Criminal Penalties committee this session, this is a sign of good faith.  I look forward to working with Sen. Van Wanggaard to use this committee effectively.” Senator Taylor is resolved to continue to be a fierce proponent in her advocacy and looks forward to collaborating with her colleagues to ensure Wisconsin moves forward.
