Free Water by the Barrel, Reduce Risk of Flooding

Taylor & MMSD host rain barrel installation demo and tips

(MILWAUKEE) Senator Lena C. Taylor (D-Milwaukee) and the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewage District (MMSD) will host a rain barrel installation demonstration to help residents learn how to save money and reduce the risk of flooding in their neighborhoods. The event will include demonstrations from the Milwaukee Community Service Corps on how to install the barrels and how to maximize their benefits.

“Catching and saving rainwater is a very old practice and a way of life in many parts of the world” Taylor noted. “Water is not an unlimited resource. Rain barrels offer a means of reducing the community’s need for municipal water, and it is important for us to do our part to help the environment.”

In January, Taylor was appointed Chair of the Policy, Finance, & Personnel (PFP) Committee of the MMSD. Senator Taylor was appointed as commissioner at MMSD by Mayor Tom Barrett last year. The demonstration is a part of MMSD’s Rain Barrel Program, started in 2004.

There will be a free rain barrel raffle and rain barrels for sale.
