Bishop’s Creek TID Bill Now Law

Walker Signs Taylor Bill, Act 12-First Democratic Law of Session

(MADISON)  Senator Lena C. Taylor (D-Milwaukee) thanked Governor Scott Walker for his approval of Senate Bill 11, now Act 12.  SB 11, the Bishops Creek TID bill, corrects clerical errors in Milwaukee TID 72 which saves property taxpayers over 1.2 million dollars.   Act 12 is also the first bill solely authored by Democrats in the Legislature to pass both houses and be signed by the Governor this session.

“Act 12 is an important bill to correct administrative errors in Milwaukee that could have raised property taxes on Milwaukee residents,” Taylor commented. “The Bishops Creek TID is an area of intense redevelopment to eliminate blight and brings commerce, jobs, and community development to the neighborhood around the Holy Redeemer Complex.  While we disagree on much, I offer my thanks to Governor Walker for his signature of this important bill.”

Senate Bill 11 is the first bill of the session primarily authored by Democrats that has passed through the Legislature and East Wing.  The bill was passed by the Senate without opposition, despite the absence of Senator Taylor and other Democrats as they denied quorum on the budget repair bill.

“Senators Hopper and Fitzgerald and Representative Kerkman moved this bill rapidly to help save taxpayers any financial burden.” Taylor finished.  “Despite our disagreements and my absence, Senator Hopper kept his word and moved the bill; a bill that is an example of how leadership can work together to achieve results when willing.”

Taylor represents the 4th Senate District in which Bishops Creek TID sits.
