STATEMENT ON STATE
SUPERINTENDENT POWERS BILL

(MADISON)     Senator Lena C. Taylor (D-Milwaukee) issued the following statement about the announcement of a critical amendment to the State Superintendent Powers bill this afternoon.

“This legislation is a framework that focuses intervention on our lowest-performing schools in Wisconsin, specifically in MPS.  The direction of this bill is appropriate for our state given the reviews of the Race To The Top application and the appalling test scores and outcomes in Milwaukee.  As one who has fought for action on the MPS issue, I welcome the Legislature’s consideration of this amendment and the bill in the coming days.”
