Senators Taylor and Plale comment on the Release of the School Choice Demonstration Project Longitudinal Study Results
“As legislators whose constituents are deeply impacted by the Milwaukee Parental Choice Program, we were interested to see the year two results of a comparison of student performance in both the Milwaukee Public Schools and the Milwaukee Parental Choice Program.”
“Those interested in playing politics on this issue will debate what these results mean for the future of the choice program. We’d like to talk about what it means for Milwaukee’s children. The only thing these results demonstrate clearly is that we have a long way to go to meet the needs of Milwaukee’s kids. As the debate begins on language to improve quality, transparency, and accountability in the Choice program, we are committed to working together to craft a compromise that eliminates bad schools, but we are also committed to making sure that we do not harm the schools that are providing children with a quality education. Any other approach would be irresponsible.”
